INVICTUS, IRC Division 0, Winner of the J.P MORGAN TROPHY – First Overall IRC Group 0 and FAST40+ Trophy.
In a fast-paced and action-packed day that started at a later than usual 0830 with the firing of the first gun by HRH Prince Michael of Kent GCVO, Sir Keith Mills’ FAST 40+ Invictus missed winning the coveted Gold Roman Bowl for the first IRC yacht on corrected time, having to settle for second place behind Tony Langley's TP52, Gladiator.
Sir Keith Mills' Ker 40+ Invictus had an epic battle with Mike Bartholomew's GP42 Tokoloshe. Invictus led around St.Cats and stayed in shore at Sandown but Tokoloshe's move offshore paid putting Tokoloshe right back in the hunt. Invictus held on to complete the 55 mile race in just under five hours, just three minutes ahead of Tokoloshe to win the class and place second overall. The FAST40+ Class dominated the overall results, in the fleet of over 1500 boats, four of the top ten boats were all FAST40+. Tokoloshe was third. Stuart Whitehead's Carkeek 40 Rebellion was sixth and Steve Cowie's GP42 Zephyr was tenth. Andy Williams corinthian crew, racing Ker40 Keronimo was 11th overall.
